It’s that time of the year, many Mums are planning their family photography sessions that they may be planning for wall portraits and digital images for sending out in their Christmas cards.
If you haven’t had a family photography session before you may be in a stress over about these photos… what to wear? Will my kids behave enough?!
However we have great news! It is possible to have a good experience with your family session and to get that brilliant shot of your family!
Today we cover our top 5 tips for the best family portraits.
Tip 1:
Come with a plan, imagine where you would like your photographs to hang in your home, what you would ultimately like to achieve from your session – When you book a session with us we will ask you to fill in an online questionnaire so you can let us know this and we can plan your session properly for you, as you wish.
Tip 2:
Choosing outfits and preparing early – We provide all of our clients with guides on what to wear and helpful ideas on colour schemes and accessories, we can even provide you with a personalised colour chart for the room you would like to hang your wall portrait in, so we have all the little details covered.
Tip 3:
Children and the group photograph – Children always dictate the session, with my 15 years experience in photographing children we work together with you to provide a fun and relaxing atmosphere during the session for your children. Some children are outgoing, some quiet and shy, their personality will be reflected by me so they feel comfortable just being themselves…. No smile at the camera needed.
Tip 4:
Makeup – Carefully apply makeup, just a little bit heavier than you would normally because of the studio lights. Avoid fake tan lines, these can really show up on your photographs!
Tip 5:
Relax….. Breathe….. and Relax, because when you book your family portraits with us, and we have pre-prepared for your session, given you information to help you get ready and prepare, all the details are covered and you will feel confident and ready for your session. So let’s have fun!
And last but not least one extra tip when having a family portraits with little ones….
I really recommend letting go and just enjoying your family. You can tell in the images if you are just thinking about your perfect angle or concentrating on whether the children are smiling properly. Engage your kids and have fun with them and then they won’t dread coming! The goal is to capture natural happy moments with you and your children so it’s your job to play with them and create moments that are real and genuine. Perfect photographs aren’t about everyone looking at the camera with the same fixed smile upon their face. Embrace the imperfect, quirky and fun expressions. Usually the ‘perfect’ shot comes unexpectedly when you are just being you with your children!
